Prof. Dr. Éva Kovács (Vienna)

Éva Kovács is Head of Academic Affairs at the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI) and Research Chair at the Institute of Sociology at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. She studied sociology and economics at the Corvinus University in Budapest, earned her PhD in 1994, and completed her habilitation in 2009. She then was a member of the VWI International Academic Advisory Board from 2010 to 2012 and Academic Programme Director at the VWI from 2012 to 2020. Her research focuses on the history of the Holocaust in Eastern Europe, memory studies, and Jewish identity in Hungary and Slovakia. She has published extensively in these fields and co-curated various exhibitions in different cities. She is the founder the audio-visual archive »Voices of the Twentieth Century in Budapest«.
