Dr. Raphael Utz (Jena)

Raphael Utz, historian, is Managing Director of the Imre Kertész Kolleg Jena. He was Lecturer in Russian and Eastern European History at Cambridge University and Heidelberg University. He received his PhD at Heidelberg University in 2007. He was then Research Fellow at Friedrich Schiller University Jena (2007–2010). His authored Rußlands unbrauchbare Vergangenheit: Nationalismus und Außenpolitik im Zarenreich (2008) and co–edited Orte der Shoah in Polen: Gedenkstätten zwischen Mahnmal und Museum (2016), Sowjetische Verbrechen und russische Erinnerung: Orte – Akteure – Deutungen (2014) and The Russian Revolution of 1905 in Transcultural Perspective: Identities, Peripheries, and the Flow of Ideas (2013). He is currently working on a major research and book project named »After the Germans: Sobibór and Shoah Memory since 1944«.
